The Great Wave off Kanagawa (P7 stylee)

Inspired by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎 ), P7 created these beautiful wave pictures. They tried to recreate the immense movement of tidal water using paints, pastels and pen.

I've been witnessing some very impressive and inspiring art work this term from my incredibly talented P7 class.

Happy teacher x

P7 School Show Script

P7 Wizard of Oz Script (written and adapted by our class)
(Curtains closed)
Narrator: We find ourselves in Kansas just before a tornado strikes.
A young girl called Dorothy goes searching for her beloved dog Toto.
What happens next is an incredible story.
(Curtains Open)
Dorothy: (moving around looking for Toto) Toto? Toto, where are you, you mischievous mutt!? There you are boy, I’ve been worried sick about you! Don’t you know there’s a twister coming?
Dorothy: (Dorothy looks sad) Oh Toto, nobody wants to be with me today I wish I could go somewhere far away. (pauses) Like maybe, somewhere over that beautiful rainbow...
(queue music)
Dorothy: (Singing)
Somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high,
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true....
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
Away above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere, over the rainbow, bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow,
Why then -- oh, why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly Beyond the rainbow Why, oh, why can't I?

(Tornado sounds and house spins)         (Dorothy comes out of the house)
Dorothy: Toto, we are not in Kansas anymore.
(magical music starts)
Glinda: Are you a good witch or a bad witch?
Dorothy: (looks around) Who me?
Munchkins: (giggles)
Glinda: (nods)
Dorothy: I’m not a witch at all, I’m Dorothy Gale from Kansas
Glinda: The Munchkins called me because a new witch just dropped a house on the wicked witch of the East, and there’s the house and here you are.
Dorothy: But I didn’t mean to kill anybody!
Munchkins: (Laugh)
Dorothy: what’s that noise? Who is laughing?
Glinda: Oh why that’s the Munchkins, were in Munchkin land
Munchkin 1: Who killed the witch?
Munchkin 2: The Wicked Witch is dead?
All Munchkins: Hooray for Dororthy!
(start witch is dead music) Munchkins: dancing
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch! Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is Dead.
She's gone where the Goblins go Below...Below...Below
Yo -- ho, let's open up and sing
And ring the bells out.
Ding Dong! The merry-oh! Sing it high Sing it low
Let them know The Wicked Witch is dead!
 (Witch enters)
Witch: who dared to kill my sister?
Munchkins: She did! (everyone points to Dorothy)
Dorothy: I didn’t mean to, it was an accident!
Witch: Well, I’ll get you my pretty and your little dog too! I can make accidents happen too, you know?
Glinda: Don’t listen to her, keep hold of the ruby slippers, they will protect you.
Witch: Well I’ll be back! I’ll get you my pretty... (evil cackle)
Dorothy: I just want to go home, home to Kansas. But how ever will I get there?
Glinda: You will need to see the Wizard.
Munchkin 4:  Yes the Wizard of Oz. He’ll help you.
Dorothy: But how do I get there?
Munchkin 5: Go to the land of Oz. You need to follow the yellow brick road.
Music starts...
Munchkin 6: Follow the yellow brick road.
Munchkin 7: Follow the yellow brick road.
Munchkin 8: Follow the yellow brick road.
Munchkin 9: Follow the yellow brick road.
(All Munchkins move centre stage to road and sing song)
Follow the Yellow Brick. Follow the Yellow Brick
Follow, follow, follow, follow the Yellow Brick.
Follow the Yellow, Brick Follow the Yellow Brick, Follow the Yellow Brick Road. (fiddle)
You're off to see the Wizard
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
You'll find he is a whiz of a Wiz If ever a Wiz there was.
If ever oh ever a Wiz there was
The Wizard of Oz Is one because
Because, because, because, because, because...
Because of the wonderful things he does....
You're off to see the Wizard
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!
Close curtains...
Narrator: And so Dorothy made her way to Oz with her little dog, Toto. But soon she was going to have some company...
Open Curtains...
Dorothy: Oh no, a crossroad. Which way do I go?
Scarecrow: That way is nice. (points to the right)
Dorothy: Who said that?
Scarecrow: But that way is better. Either way is just fabulous.
Dorothy: I thought you were just a scarecrow.
Scarecrow: Oh I am missy, but I’m just not sure of very much as I have no brain.
Dorothy: No brain???
(Scarecrow sings: If I only had a brain)
I could while away the hours,
Conferrin' with the flowers,
Consultin' with the rain.
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
I'd unravel every riddle
For any individ'le
In trouble or in pain.
With the thoughts I’d be thinkin'
I could be another Lincoln
If I only had a brain.
Dorothy: Why don’t you come with me to see the Wizard of Oz. I’m sure he’ll give you a brain if you ask him.
Scarecrow: What a fabulous idea.
(squeaky noise)
Scarecrow: What’s that noise? (squeak continues)
Dorothy: Why it’s a man made of tin. He looks so rusty.
Tin Man: (muffled and without moving lips) The oil can.
Scarecrow and Dorothy: What did you say?
Tin Man: (muffled and without moving lips) The oil can.
Scarecrow: I think he needs some oil. Look there’s a can right there.
(Scarecrow and Dorothy use can to put oil on hinges)
Tin Man: THANK YOU! I’ve been stuck like that for ages. Since the last April shower. (Starts to cry)
Dorothy: Please don’t cry. You might rust again.
Tin Man: It’s just... (sniff) I am so empty inside. (bangs chest) I have no heart.
Dorothy: You have no heart???
(Tin man sings: If I only had a heart)
When a man's an empty kettle,
He should be on his mettle.
And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin'
That I could be kind-a human,
If I only had a heart.
I'd be tender -- I'd be gentle
And awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art
I'd be friends with sparrows...
And the boy who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
Scarecrow: I’ve had a great idea! Are you thinking what I’m thinking Dorothy?
Dorothy: Yes! Come with us to see the Wizard. He’ll help you find a heart.
(suddenly the lion jumps out and roars)
Scarecrow, Dorothy & Tin man: (scream in fear)
Lion: What are you doing in my jungle? I am the king of the jungle!
Dorothy: What do you think you are doing scaring my dog you big bully?!
Lion: Oh no, I am so sorry! (whimpers) You hurt my paw!
Dorothy: Why are you being such a coward?!
(Lion sings: If I only had the nerve)
Yeh, it's sad, believe me, Missy
When you're born to be a sissy,
Without the vim and verve.
But I could show my prowess --
Be a lion not a mou-ess --
If I only had the nerve
I'm afraid there's no denyin'
I'm just a dande-lion –
A fate I don't deserve.
I'd be brave as a blizzard --
Tin Man: (sings) I'd be gentle as a lizard --
Scarecrow:  (sings) I'd be clever as a gizzard --
Dorothy: (sings) If the Wizard is a Wizard who will serve
Scarecrow: (sings) Then I'm sure to get a brain --
Tin Man: (sings) A heart --
Dorothy: (sings) A home --
Lion: (sings) The nerve.
(All link arms and sing: We’re off to see the Wizard)
Oh, we're off to see the Wizard
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
We hear he is a whiz of a Wiz If ever a Wiz there was....
(Suddenly the wizard appears)
Wizard: Hey you guys, you don’t need to go any further because we only have one minute to finish the show so...what exactly do you all want from me?
Lion: Oh, well I want courage!
Scarecrow: And I want a brain!
Tin man: I would like a heart!
Wizard: No problem! Just like Blue Peter here are some I prepared earlier! (gives everyone their thing and gazes at Dorothy) And what would you like missy?
Dorothy: Well, I just want to go home! I miss my family! I just want to get back to Kansas.
Wizard: You could’ve gone home anytime because all you had to do was click your ruby slippers together and say there’s no place like home!           Take a drink of water before you leave on your journey.
(Dorothy takes a sip of water) Witch bursts in…
Witch: So you thought you’d get away from me did you? Well I’ll get you my pretty. And that little dog of yours… (water spills on witch)  What have you done to me… I’m melting, melting, melting…
Dorothy: Oops!       Oh, well...I am going to miss you all!
Narrator: And so Dorothy said goodbye to her new dear friends. When she arrived in Kansas she thanked the Wizard in her dreams. Was her journey a dream or was she really in Oz?
