School show success

Well done my little P7 munchkins. You were fantastic tonight!!!

Thank you for working so hard this term, for being so patient in rehearsals, demonstrating that you are confident individuals in the performing arts and being so very creative in bringing all the ideas for the show together. I'm very proud of you all. Great stuff! You will remember this moment all your life!

I'll post up photos tomorrow.

24th of March Homework : Debate on Independence.

Independent Scotland Debate    LIT 2-06a
Motion: This house believes that Scotland should be an independent country.
L.I. To deliver a speech on a selected topic of debate.
S.C. I can use persuasive techniques
I can deliver arguments and ideas succinctly and clearly
I can find relevant data to back up my arguments
Choose to be for or against the motion and write a speech for a class debate on independence. Practise presenting your speech as homework this week and we will hold a debate in class next week. Make sure you research your facts and are clear about your arguments. Even if you are not sure what you personally believe, you must choose and argue for one side of the debate.  This will be a Talking and Listening assessment.

National Science Week 2014

National Science Week 2014 @ Paisley Museum
The Science of every day items.

As part of National Science Week, we are asking schools to help us explore the science of everday items.

Science is all around us and effects almost every part of our daily lives. Tea bags, pencils, paper, food, drink - virtually anything you can think of has its own science.

As part of this celebration of the ordinary, we would like you to nominate an object for inclusion in our "Sphere of Science".

Guidelines for resin casts of everyday items.

Items and their explanations will be placed in a circular mould 20cm in diameter. Casting resin will then be poured in to approx 2cm thick. These will be displayed outdoors in the observatory gardens.
Items should be non perishable. For example, if your item was a mug, this would be fixed approx 1cm in to the resin with part of the mug protruding. This is not an issue. However, if the item was a loaf of bread, you might consider using a slice so it is completely cast in resin.

Template for explanation.
Please add your school and class name as well as a brief description of the science behind your item.  This could include the mathematics behind it, materials used, or engineering techniques.

For example.
A teabag.
Pyramid, square or circular?
Diffusion: the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. There are lots of tea molecules in the bag and none outside. The leaves themselves can’t pass through the bag but their smaller particles containing colour and flavour can. The pyramid shaped teabag allows a larger surface area for the flavour and colour to diffuse. The addition of heat (from the hot water) to the tea bag causes its molecules to move much faster than at room temperature. This energy is more readily released in a shorter period of time than a tea bag filled with room temperature or cold water.

Burns' Federation Competition

A massive congratulations to Becca, Lucy and Adam for their participation in this event. Very proud of my 3 wee skellums! Lucy even achieved a highly commended. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. I'm sure Rabbie himself would be delighted to see that his legacy lives on.

Pen wash shells

P7 were using an ink pen line drawing technique where water is added in specific areas of the drawing to add tone and depth.

Yet again Skye's work shows skill and attention to detail. Loved Becca's mini studies. The are very effective. The boys made a fantastic effort too, especially Daniel and Adam.

Another successful art lesson P7. Keep up the good work.

Week beginning 3rd of March

Week beginning 3rd of March

I have not issued normal homework, this week, as I would like to prioritise completion of the children’s personal project. This work was dedicated a month’s completion time but a number of children have mentioned that they have not started it yet. This is one of the main learning activities within the Natural Disasters topic and the children will be using these to peer teach and assess elements of a whole range of natural disasters. It is important that every child takes part in the evaluation process. I have given each child the evaluation sheet which I will use to assess their work. Please sign this at the bottom and attach it to the last page of the project. I will collect all projects in for evaluation this Friday.

Children with parts for the show should now be learning their parts off by heart so we can work on stage direction.

If you haven't already voted for the school prayers you can go to the school blog and do so there.

Thank you, as always.     R. Cunningham
